Find More Information About Hair Loss

Every hair growth cycle involves some amount of hair loss daily. We would lose hair every 2 to 3 months with 90% of the hair in a growing phase and 10% in resting phase. When loss of hair reaches a higher proportion than the usual limits, then it is a matter of concern. These include: Alopecia areata: This is noticeable when one or more spots appear on the scalp. This is the result of dysfunctional immune system when the white cells of the body attacks the hair follicles. Alopecia Totalis is another reason for hair loss where all the scalp hair has fallen. When the whole body loses hair, it is called Alopecia Universalis.

Genetic conditions: Male pattern baldness afflicts about 25% of men by age 30. Male hormone testosterone could also be another contributing factor. Testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which slows down or stops hair growth and produces weaker, shorter hair. Male pattern baldness is absent with men devoid of testosterone.

Skin diseases: Skin diseases can affect the scalp and cause hair loss. Some of the skin diseases include dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis.

Sudden illness or fever: big chunks of hair sometimes fall out after an illness or fever. This is generally a temporary phenomenon.

The other common conditions which can also result in hair loss include: Childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and aging. These are the main reasons for losing hair but there are others.

Hair loss can be treated when you can stop hair fall and promote re-growth. Here are some natural ways you could treat hair loss:

1. Have plenty of vitamins A, B, C and E. These promote new hair growth. What are the roles of these vitamins? They provide sebum, promote blood circulation to the scalp by enhancement of oxygen absorption and collagen.

2. Care for the scalp: It would help a lot if you regularly massage your scalp using herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. These include: essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood.

3. Avoid scalp abuse: Avoid daily use of chemical shampoos and blow drying. Chemical processes like coloring as well as straightening can damage your hair and scalp. You hair is stripped of natural oils and turns brittle if you wash it daily with hot water.

4. Use of herbal care: There are some very effective options here. Use powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner. It is also excellent in preventing graying and hair loss. It has a natural low pH. Henna is a wonder natural conditioner after this.

5. Lifestyle: Stress is a very important factor in hair loss. Try and reduce stress by meditating and exercising. Quit smoking; the nicotine in cigarettes constricts blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the scalp. If you want to prevent damage to the scalp from UV rays, avoid exposure to the sun.
